Kilimanjaro Marangu Route

The Marangu Route is the only path on Kilimanjaro that uses permanent hut accommodation rather than tents — making it appealing to those who prefer a dry, sheltered sleep after a hard day's hiking. The route is relatively direct, approaching and descending via the same path, which means you'll see the same landscape twice. The trade-off for comfort is a shorter acclimatisation profile — the standard 5-day route has a lower success rate than the 7-day Machame.\n\nFor the right climber, however, Marangu is a wonderful experience. The Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo huts each have their own character, and the views from Horombo across the moorland are among the finest on the mountain. We strongly recommend the 6-day option — the extra acclimatisation day at Horombo significantly improves your summit chances.
