About the Machame Route
The Machame Route — nicknamed "The Whisky Route" for its challenge compared to the Marangu "Coca-Cola Route" — is the most popular on Kilimanjaro for good reason. The scenery is staggering, the acclimatisation profile is excellent, and the route takes you through five distinct ecological zones.
Over 7 days, you'll ascend through montane forest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone. The classic "high camp, low sleep" profile on Day 5 dramatically improves acclimatisation and success rates.
