Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania's most compact yet wildlife-rich parks — a long, thin strip of diverse habitat squeezed between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the alkaline lake shore. Famous for its tree-climbing lions (a behaviour unique to this population and a few others in Uganda), it's also home to enormous herds of buffalo, hippo pools just metres from the road, and during the right season, hundreds of thousands of lesser flamingos turning the lake pink.\n\nThis full-day excursion from Arusha makes Manyara an excellent first experience of East African wildlife — and a superb addition to any multi-day safari itinerary.
